The descriptions of each category are listed below.

Tanding
Tanding (Match) is the sparring category of competition that involves two Persilat from different teams. Both Persilat challenge each other by using the elements of self-defense and attacking such as defending, flanking, evading, striking, and dropping the opponent; the use of competition techniques and tactics, stamina and endurance, and fighting spirit, using the principles and using the richness of movement and technique.
TUNGGAL
TUNGGAL (Single) is the category of competition performed by one Persilat that performs his/her skill in Jurus Tunggal Baku (Single Compulsory Movement), accurately and firmly, complete soulfully with empty hands and with weapons according to rules and regulations apply for Tunggal category.


Ganda (Double)
GANDA(Double) is the category in which two Persilats of the same team perform a choreographed routine of technical skill, rich in the movement of Pencak Silat. The movements of flanking, evasion, attack and counter-attack are performed with well planned, effective, aesthetic, and powerful intention. The routine is performed in an orderly series, using empty hand and weapon according to rules and regulations that apply for the Ganda category.
Seni Solo Creative (Creative Solo Art)
While "Open Creative" is not a standard, official category in Pencak Silat, the closest equivalent in competitive formats is often called Seni Solo Kreatif (Creative Solo Art) or sometimes included within the broader Seni Ganda (Choreographed Pair) category. Rules for these categories allow for more creativity than traditional, compulsory forms but must still adhere to core Pencak Silat principles.


REGU (Team)
REGU (Team) is the category of competition in which three Persilats from the same team portray their skill in compulsory movements. The performance is scored based on correctness, accurateness, completion with expression, and synchronization according to rules and regulations apply for Regu category.
